All of the Jackson County ATV Trails are OPEN.  A section of the Clark County ATV trail from Gorman Ave.(Intersection #2) east to Reesewood Ave.(this segment travels across portions of several private properties.) is CLOSED PERMANENTLY because of excessive off-trail riding and vandalism.

 

The Black River Area Chamber of Commerce and members give our sincere sympathy to John and Peggy Hayden on their recent loss of The Palms Supper Club due to fire. If there is anything we can do to help, we are ready to assist in any way.

 

We are looking for members to host the morning Chamber Coffee Connection. This social event is held the first Friday of the month from 7:30-9.  Traditionally a simple continental breakfast is provided by the business with Burnstad’s Supermarket supplying the juice. Dells Duck rides are still available on the Black River during the Karner Blue Buttlerfly Festival. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at Black River Realty Group, 133 Main Street, Black River Falls.  First Duck leaves at  8:30am – 12 trips throughout the day. THE KARNER BLUE BUTTERFLY FESTIVAL: Saturday, July 12.  The morning activities start out with the Karner Blue 5K, 10K, ˝ Marathon and Kids Race. Registration will be at 7am with the race beginning at 8am behind the Black River Area Chamber of Commerce office on 120 N Water St in BRF. Pre-registration can be completed by calling 1-800-404-4008, stopping in the Chamber office or visit www.blackrivercountry.net. A Pancake Breakfast will be served from 8-11 by the St. Joseph’s Patrons of Peace Youth Group at St. Joseph’s Church at the top of the hill. Kids Land will be located in the Field of Honor Park (next to the Black River Area Chamber of Commerce).The Ducks will be back and advance tickets can be purchased by calling Lenae at 715-284-8222.The Ducks, from Wisconsin Dells, will take you for an hour- long narrated ride on the upper Black River. The parade will begin at 1pm from the Black River Falls Senior High parking lot and will proceed down Main Street.  Parade entries may call Deanne at The Consignment Shop at 7150-284-2203. Barb Kneiss of Main Street Scrapbooks & More is in charge of arts and crafts vendors that will be set up on Main Street from 9-4 selling their wares. A “Turn of the Century” trolley will be making trips to the Karner Blue butterfly habitat sites with guides present on the trolley giving educational presentations. The KB Butterfly Princess will be crowned at 11am, “Shady Glen” will perform at 2-5pm followed by music and games by WWIS from 5-7. “Studebaker 7” will be on stage at N 1st St. from 7-11 and the annual Chicken-Q dinner by Rooster Andy of LaCrosse will start serving at 4:30.

THE JACKSON COUNTY BEEF COOK-OUT will be on Saturday, July 12, at the JC Fairgrounds. Ribeye steak, sweet corn and ice cream is on the menu plus guests will be able to sample BBQ beef brisket – typical of the Texan style. There will be a Jail & Bail, stagecoach rides, kid’s coin scramble and music.  Serving starts at 3:30 and runs until 9pm.

BOLTON REFUGE JACKSON COUNTY OUTREACH is having a Fundraiser Yard Sale on Saturday, July 12 from 9-3 on the corner of S. 1st & Pierce Streets in Black River Falls.

Kenney Clipner from the BLACK RIVER FALLS PRO CELLULAR, and formerly from Richland Center, is initiating fundraisers in our county to help the flood victims in the Richland/Crawford counties. If you remember this area was hit hard early last fall and again this month with record breaking rainfall. The flooding is much more widespread than last year and most of the areas have not recovered from last year’s floods. Kenny and Pro Cellular will be setting up drop-off points for non-perishable food items and new toiletries (such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, soap, etc.). Also, The Chamber of Commerce Information Booth at the Karner Blue Butterfly Festival in downtown Black River Falls on July 12 will be the location of monetary donations. BURNSTAD’S MARKET SHOWS THEIR SUPPORT: After witnessing first hand some of the worst flooding in the Midwest in fifteen years, Burnstad’s Market (Black River Falls, Tomah, Richland Center) has decided to do its part in supporting the people who were affected most, the people of Richland County.  Starting Tuesday, July 8 and running through Thursday, July 10 Burnstad’s Market will be hosting a “Gold-n- Plump Chicken Truckload Sale” with .50 from every package sold being donated to the Richland County Flood Relief Fund. There will also be additional sale items plus each Burnstad’s Market will have a food drop off centers located by the Brat Barns outside the buildings for people to drop off non-perishable products. The American Red Cross will be holding brat and hot dog cook outs during these 3 days with all proceeds going to the Richland County Flood Relief Fund.  The Burnstad Family has made it a personal goal to raise $10,000 between the three of their locations during this 3 day event so please stop by and help them exceed their goal!

 

JACKSON COUNTY’S BRIGHTEST STAR TALENT CONTEST entry forms are located in The Shopper and The Banner Journal.  This year there will be 2 categories; 1. Lip-Sync, Comedy or Dance; 2. Vocal or Instrumental. Entries are taken on a first come basis as there are limited time slots.  When all time slots are full sign-up will be closed. Sign up deadline is July 15. The Contest is Wednesday, July 30. This contest is sponsored by WWIS Radio in Black River Falls.

The store is also open by appointment only during the week.  Contact Troy at Black River Furniture Outlet 284-4003.  Hours may be expanded as demand warrants.  Just arrived – over 100 remnants of mostly beiges and solid colors. Sizes range from 2’ X 6’ to 12’ X18’.  Our focus is to provide remnants on demand for the basements, spare rooms, cabins, rentals, etc in the greater Black River Falls area; we are not, however,  a “wall to wall” carpet store.  Along with the remnants, we bought probably 500 rugs or more ranging from door mats to very nice 5’ X 8” and 8’ X 10’ Mohawk and Shaw contemporary, transitional and traditional heat set area rugs.

THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY 20th Annual Finish Line of Jackson County is taking place on August 9. Pledge and registration forms are available at The Chamber office here in Black River Falls. Rhythm of the River Chorus - Do you like to sing? If you have the ability to carry a tune, we can teach you the rest; come join us, an organization of women devoted to the joy of singing a cappella four-part harmony. They sing for friendship, sing for health and sing for joy!  They practice weekly on Thursday evenings at 7pm at the United Methodist Church in BRF. FRIENDS OF THE BLACK RIVER will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday, July 23rd at  7:00 pm in the Community room of CCU in Black River Falls.  Featured will be local artist and film maker, Steve Firkins with his documentary ”Down the Green River”  filmed in Utah and preview footage from his upcoming film, “Down the Black River.”

 

Castle Mound Campground Shelter will be the location of the Women in the Outdoors workshop on Saturday, August 23 from 8:15-4:30 on Hwy 12 East in Black River Falls.  Cost is $40 which will include membership, meals, materials, etc. Pre-registration deadline is Friday, August 15. Course offerings to choose from include Map & Compass, Backpack & Hiking, GPS/Geocaching, First Aid for the Outdoors Woman, Alpacas, Disc Golf, Archery, Snorkeling, Fly Tying, Fly Fishing, Kayak 1 & 2. Help the Merrillan Lions Club celebrate their 34th Labor Day on Sunday, August 31 at Gile Park. The activities will begin at noon with a parade on Main Street followed by a Horseshoe Tournament at 1pm and at 2pm the Kiddie Tractor Pull will take place (registration at 1:30). “Shady Glen” will provide music from 2-6pm, Cake judging & Auction at 3pm, Money
Scramble for Kids at 4pm, dancing to ‘Silver Express” from 7-11, 10pm Raffle Drawing for Large Prizes and fireworks at dusk.  There will be food and refreshments all day along with bingo and a co-ed softball tournament.
